Home, safe and sane

Dear family and friends (that includes any and all readers!)

I arrived home after midnight last night. Yikes!  Lots to share but for now just a note to acknowledge getting home whole. I will post my last day draft ride report later today.  Lake Erie is beautiful! How does it compare to Lake Michigan and Lake Superior? Hmmm...interesting question.

Had a great time! Put 1300 miles on the new Roadsmart tires. Love them. I am preparing to head out again this weekend. So, let the planning begin!

A belated, meaningful Memorial Day to all those who felt the calling and acted on it.

Reading quickly I misread your title, I thought it said "Home, Safe and SOUND", but "SANE" is good too.

I was thinking that as you are a SOLO Adventurer, travelling on uncharted roads in the mid-west, and don't always follow your trusty GPS, you may not adhere to your chosen/planned route(s). You should consider purchasing a "SPOT" locator unit. I think it would be neat to follow your locator beacon all over the country and help is only a "push of a button" away. All of us can be your big brother watching out for you.

Glad you made it home safely.

lol -- Yeah, a Spot might be a good idea, but all who know Sharon will understand her need for independence and to be totally "untethered" as she strikes out in search of new roads and ink stamps!

bob,

"sane" is definitely more appropriate. Night riding can get a bit challenging. I rode many hours in black space. My Martin Fabrication lights are AMAZING!

Re: The SPOT. Take a look closely at the pictures on the bike on this and previous trips...I've carried the SPOT on bike since April. I too think it would make an interesting addition to the blog. However, as a solo FEMALE rider there is debate among family and friends as to the safety of allowing others to pinpoint my whereabout so precisely in live time. I understand their concern.

Right now, the family loves being able to track me. I'm mixed about it, the whole tracking in general. But if it gives them some comfort to know that I'm "okay," I'll do it. It does cramp my style a bit.

Once the debate is resolved, I'll post what happens. So far, it's family who has the tracking capabilities. I could do more map posting.

bob,

I like the "big brother" notion. Technology is great but I keep being reminded of the nuts out there too.

One of the single most significant things about being part of the BMW club is that I ride with the Anonymous book. A list of BMW riders all over the freaking world who give their number and locations and commit to being available with only a phone call. That is like riding with hundreds of others riders.

When I come your way, believe you me, you'll be on my "big brother" list. Out there, we need all the support we can muster.

Thanks!

I understand the security aspect, no worries. The BMW anonymous book is a good way to go. As long as I still have the SV650 you are welcome to fly here and use it, even on solo rides without me if I can't get away from work. There are excellent roads here in the mountains, OR I can join you on my Maxi-Scoot.

Believe me, I know you are a "free" spirit and would prefer to be untethered . . .

ride safe and smart
